Where in the World are the National Beef Ambassadors Now?
Meat-IN Day at PSU
National Beef Ambassadors, Chris Molinaro, 2007 and Jennifer Rassler, 2008
held the 'second annual' Meat-In Day at Pennsylvania State University. The
event was held the day prior to the Great American Meat-Out Day as an effort
to encourage students to include meat in their diets even on the Meat-Out Day.
30-40 members of the Block and Bridle, Dairy Science, Poultry Science, and
EARTH House came out to help distribute meat, dairy samples and informational
materials. 1,900 beef jerky samples, 1,800 cheese sticks, and 300 venison sticks
were distributed to campus students. Materials about the nutritional benefits
of beef, dairy, pork and poultry were handed out as well.
Ambassadors promoted in front of the student union building from 11am-2pm
and finished up at the Findlay Dining Commons in East Halls from 4-7pm. Jennifer
remarked, “I was really encouraged and impressed at how enthusiastic
the kids were about helping pass materials out. They really took it upon themselves
to research facts on their own and make sure the message was gotten out.” “One
boy, who I just met today, rattled off an impressive amount of beef facts to
a group of students. The students we interacted with today were of a wide variety
of consumers. Some were very enthusiastic about eating meat and dairy, while
others politely passed us by and mentioned they were vegetarians,” stated
Chris. Chris also noted, “While we were in East Halls, two boys from
another organization took it upon themselves to make up some flyer's for the
Meat-Out Day. They stood directly across from us, only a few steps away and
passed out their flyer's reminding students to give up meat for a day. Our
group politely offered them informational materials and I was able to talk
with the one boy for quite awhile about his views on the vegetarian diet
